Castle Rock CO is a newer community located in the center of Douglas County, Colorado. Nestled right on the high plains of the Rocky Mountain Foothills, Castle Rock, Colorado has a small town feel, but being just about 35 miles south of Denver, and is about 40 miles north of Colorado Springs ñ it still has big city amenities. The region surrounding Castle Rock was originally inhabited by the Arapaho and Cheyenne Indians. It was founded back in the 1870s when people started to settle there, drawn by rumors of gold. Castle Rock was then chosen as seat of the county because of its central location. It was not the gold rush, however, that made the name for the town. It was the discovery of a stone named rhyolite, an igneous volcanic rock, that garnered popularity for the town and started the settlement there.
